I used to have more autonomy with what I taught and I used to put more of myself into it. My teaching has become too heavily left brain - do this action for this reason and I have lost something of the right brain evolutionary approach. Partly this is in response to increasing demands on students to perform and not enough time spent on learning. I feel I might be equipping them with a few more tools, but not with the ability to design, make and use their own tools. Even the self-motivation class is coming from a 'Here's what I think...' place. I am just waiting to find a student who is genuinely interested in this stuff, who will seek it out themselves, who will read a self-help book and who isn't just content to wait for someone to bring it to them and test them on whether they have read it. I don't even find much enthusiasm for this stuff from my colleagues. They don't read these books either. Even during the PG Cert, most people went with the dry academic stuff (which they didn't really like) and no-one seemed interested in the wealth of self-development literature that now exists on subjects such as learning, motivation, happiness, success, relationships, leadership and creativity.
In listening to Daniel H Pink's 'A Whole New Mind'
I have had all my thoughts about the importance of this search re-emphasised. He references books I've read a while back (Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, The Hero With a Thousand Faces, Emotional Intelligence) and just reminds me how central all this stuff is to development. I need to redesign, not just my overall programme, but everything I deliver to make this metalearning part of the student experience. I don't want to tack it on, I want to embed it, to live it and to teach it. I cannot allow it to be sidelined any longer and by missing it out, or watering it down, I feel I am not being my self.

Motive 8
This outline is the basis for living from the Golden Soul. To do this you must develop the following 8 motives:
Motive 1: To be able to observe your state of mind in any given moment
Motive 2: To be able to control your state of mind to make it calm and positive
Motive 3: To be able to fully observe what is happening around you
Motive 4: To be able to control your reaction to what is happening around you, maintaining calm and positivity
Motive 5: To be able to identify possible positive directions to travel in
Motive 6: To be able to choose the most positive direction
Motive 7: To be able to identify possible next steps in the right direction
Motive 8: To be able to commit to taking the next step in the right direction
